TREE'S ROOT & SEED INITIATIVE

TREE's ROOT, (Resource Optimization & Opportunities Team), is a student and community leaders' task force that works with school districts, local businesses, government agencies & non-profit organizations to create an individualized SEED, (School Energy Efficiency Design), or plan of action for improving energy & resource utilization on each campus.  Essentially, a ROOT is organized at the High School level with representatives from TREE, Student Council, administration, faculty, parent organizations and community experts.  Each ROOT uses and adapts a SEED, or checklist, to audit its own campus to determine baseline energy, water & other resource usage and then develop strategies and recommendations to make improvements to save money & resources and recruit others to get involved in the process. Then each ROOT can visit elementary and/or junior high "feeder" schools to help them create their own SEED's.
